ADOPT-A-CAT

June is National Adopt-a-Cat month. The Alexandria Shelter, from which cometh my beloved Pippin and baby Pandora is holding its annual Feline Follies Saturday the 24th.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY

Baby Pandora is supposedly two years old today. As on all birthdays and holidays she gets spoiled with all the veggies she can eat. Mom says make sure I give some to Pippin, too. As though I didn't give them both some fresh veggies every day. .

A NICE TIME AT THE PIGNIC

We had a lovely time -- the weather held out. My pigs were more interested in the food than in other pigs or humans -- they stuffed themselves and came back exhausted. Of course they got lots of attention and I got some compliments on my piggy traveler.

Both of them got to try dill, which they liked, and mint, which even Pippin, the pig who eats everything, wouldn't touch.

VOTE FOR US!

I hate to sound like Mama Rose (Chris sez I don't look like Ethel Merman), but my beloved Pippin/Thunder and Lightning are contestants in the Pets of Alexandria Contest. Here's how you can vote for them:

1. Voting prior to the Canine Games can be done by mail, at the Shelter or by calling 703-838-4774, ext. 206. All votes made prior to the Canine Games must be received by 5:00 PM on October 7, 2005. To make sure the vote is credited to the correct entry, votes must identify the pet and owner's name. To vote by snail mail, send correspondence to AWLA, Attn: Pets of Alexandria Calendar, 4101 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, VA 22304.

2. Cast your vote at the Canine Games on Saturday, October 8. The Canine Games will be held at the Episcopal High School in Alexandria. On-site voting will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Votes are a dollar apiece, but there's no pressure....

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND

Five weeks ago today we buried my cousin Mark. Six months ago my darling Lightning died. I sprinkled his ashes in the garden today, then I had Pippin and Pandora look at them. They will both get extra lettuce tonight.

JANEY'S NEW BABY

Janey and Pippin (formerly Thunder) announce the arrival of their newest family member. Her name is a Pandora, she is a beautiful little one-and-a-half-pound albino (or in cavy circles pink-eyed white). The people at the Alexandria shelter where we got both pigs say she is nine months old.
